Shot in the Golan Heights, the Galilee and Jerusalem, it moves between fiction, documentary and archival footage to portray the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs
Directed and produced by visionary artist Jumana Manna, Foragers is a poetic hybrid documentary: part fiction, part archival, and part courtroom drama about Palestinians who forage wild za’atar (thyme) and ‘akkoub’, plants now criminalised under Israeli nature-protection laws. Set across the Golan Heights, Galilee, and Jerusalem, the film weaves intimate footage of elders gathering herbs by hand with haunting drone shots that mirror the state’s oversight from above.
This screening is a collaboration between Marsm UK and Age UK City of London, as part of A Season of Arabic Culture, aiming to share culture from the Arabic-speaking world to those who live, work and pass through the City of London.
