Alsarah and the Nubatones

A spellbinding journey into Nubian musical heritage, Alsarah and the Nubatones are a 5-piece collective led by the eponymous Sudanese singer, songwriter and ethnomusicologist Alsarah. The Nubatones came together out of a collective love for Nubian music and a genuine belief that Soul transcends all cultural and linguistic barriers. Inspired by the pentatonic scale they blend a selection of Nubian ‘songs of return’ from the 1970s-today with original material and traditional music of central Sudan, their set is a musical journey through diaspora and migration from an urban lens.

Hailed by The Guardian as “the new star of Nubian pop”, Alasarah’s inspiring and innovative voice has become a trademark for the burgeoning scene of ‘East-African retro-pop’ as well as being involved in numerous initiatives such as the stellar ‘Nile Project’ and collaborating with French producer Débruit.
